One major issue end users have with dongles is that they add no value - a flash drive however, can do many things as well as protect your software.

Not only can you offer the normal storage on-board, but many devices are now combined with flash drives. In addition, old style dongles promote the brand of the manufactuer and not your brand, so combining both in a well branded product with your content and some added value will make the security much more acceptable - valuable even.

PRO-Tector™ Flash is an application that when used in conjunction with your development PC will convert selected USB Flash drives into "dongle" like licensing keys. You start the PRO-Tector™ Flash application utility on your machine, scan the usb drives where you have input the USB flash drives you wish to convert and go. The utility will review the drives to ensure they are suitable for conversion, and then make them into dongles or report any issues with the process (i.e. the drive has been locked down).

The utility will allow you to embed your choice of entitlements into each drive, these will be the activated when you plug in the drive, for example switching on a trial to a perpetual model. You can choose from the following node-locked license models: Trial, Feature-based, Leasing/Rental, Pay-Per-Use, Fixed end date and Perpetual.

In addition, the server side part of the process will allow you to create a licensing DLL with an embedded trial period so that you can ship demo versions without the need for a USB drive, or you can just use an "instant-on" model. There is no need for any other support files but you are also provided with a License Manager to enable your users to locally interrogate and report on their USB flash licenses.

Once the basic setup is complete and you have your drives converted you simply need to ship the application in your usual installer and you are good to go.
