How the Nalpeiron Licensing Service™ works

For the Software publisher

The the Nalpeiron Licensing Service™ consists of client and server components, securely connected via encrypted communications, provided to you as a total end-to-end solution.

The API is provided as a Windows DLL, Mac Dylib and Web Services.

The Nalpeiron solution combines an Activation and Registration Service with a strong client side SDK.

The SDK is used to copy protect your software while the server element takes care of all the stages of a user licensing your software, from trial management through to marketing.

You use the Hosted Licensing Service to manage the licensing – generating encrypted keys plus tracking, managing, revoking and reporting on the licenses along with preventing license infractions.

To get started all you need is to setup a product in the Nalpeiron Licensing Service™ , choose the number of license keys you need and integrate to your application with free sample projects – with a ‘simple’ integration you can be up and running in an afternoon.

The hosted activation server creates a batch of 18-digit encrypted license keys using numeric codes specific to a client's product title and customer details. The required number of codes is generated at Nalpeiron and issued to the client as a text file for use with ecommerce carts or by other service providers. The text file can be combined with scripts to issue an activation code to the end user via email.

The software publisher has access to the Nalpeiron Licensing Service™ admin interface (we call this The Publisher Center) where they can manage the entire activation process from controlling activation to downloading reports and registration data (option). The service also allows you to gather business intelligence about such things as license code abuse and product activation activities.

The Publisher Center is a Web-based tool for the Nalpeiron Licensing Service™ used by our Customers to manage their licenses. It enables you or other people within your organization to perform tasks such as finding license codes, finding registered customers, managing licenses and running reports. Your End Users will never see this part of the Activation Web site.

Many types of Users can take advantage of this part of the system, from Customer Service staff, to Product Managers and Software Engineers.

Each type of use will be driven by different needs and the system has been designed to focus on generating new revenues by capturing and displaying key usage data of Consumers/End Users.

It is easy to quickly see which Consumers are abusing the set licensing rules and to contact them both automatically and manually.

For the End User (Consumer)

The Nalpeiron Licensing Service™ offers your end users a range of friendly ways to 'activate' their software application. You will have supplied them with your application and will have likely called one of our free end user license managers during your installation routine that will offer them the ability to activate via web, self service web portal or manually (phone/fax/email).

The end user will have received a license code from you, that you will have taken from your 'bank' of codes within the the Nalpeiron Licensing Service™ publisher account, along with their purchase confirmation. This could be on labels, on pack, via email or by whatever means you choose.

All the end user has to do in 99% of cases is paste in this code into the license manager application and they will be instantly activated and ready to run with you application with any license rules and entitelements you will have set for your products.

To make this process easy and simple for you to explain to your end users we have developed a web site and brand called Trusted Activation that you can distribute freely.

You can offer three easy ways to activate your products:

Internet Activation

If the product detects that the computer has a valid Internet connection, it attempts to use Internet activation as its first choice.

The activation server processes this request and, if successful, returns a response message that includes a digital license that only the requesting computer can use. As soon as this digital license is received, activation is complete and the product can launch and run.

Self service online licensing (an alternative to activation)

As an alternative to Activation for users with firewalls or policies that prevent direct web access for the Activation process, you can direct your customers to the self service end user web site - https://www.internetactivation.com - this is provided free as part of the Nalpeiron Licensing Service™. The web site automates self service activation via a simple browser based interface.

The end user web site is available in six languages for your customers convenience.

Optional registration feature

A registration server is included as a free option with NLS™ . Users who wish to receive the benefits from registering their products may provide additional information, such as name and email address, but registration is never required to use the product. No personally identifiable information is ever requested, collected, or transmitted during activation.

Manual Licensing via phone, email or fax

Of course you may have part of your user base that still has no Internet access or wish to use this licensing method. In these cases the process is still simple and easy for you and your users.

When a user wishes to use this method they will need to run the license manager (provided) and the manual interface that will provide them with a special code unique to their machine (Installation ID) along with your license code. They provide this to your staff who will use a simple interface within the Publisher Center that will enable them to quickly exchange the user data with an activation key.
