Top Questions to ask Vendors

Choosing the right Vendor can be a difficult and frustrating experience if you don't know the right questions to ask!

This is particularly so in seemingly simple markets like Licensing and Analytics but as in all things, its the "little" things that can make a huge difference in the cost of ownership, risk and project success.

We hope the following questions will help you learn what you need about your choice of Vendors.

As this is a Cloud Service, do you have an SLA and Uptime Guarantee?

How long have you been in business and do you have reference accounts?

Are you a US-based Company with US support in English?

Where are your Servers located? Are they on US-soil for Data Protection?

Is our Data kept on secure private US-based servers or the Public cloud?

What Data protection options do you have? Data privacy options?

What is your core competence? Do you do anything other than Analytics?

Is your pricing simple and easy to avoid unexpected charges?

Is the service battle tested on millions of users? Can I rely on the service?

As an intelligent buyer you will fully test each Vendor's services and ensure they meet your needs, but make sure you check out the longer term underlying reliability and history of the service. In the case of Analytics the legal issues and risks around Data protection and Privacy are also paramount - its essential your clients data is carefully protected and stored in secure, US-based, private servers. Even if you are outside the US it's better to have your data stored here due to the many issues with other Nation States.

In the case of Licensing data security is just as important for more commercial reasons, your Vendor not needs to not only protect your user data but also your inventory of commercial license codes and your products in the field.
