Avistar Choose Nalpeiron to Replace In House Licensing Solution
Background
Avistar is a leader in the desktop visual communications market. The company was founded over 15 years ago, offering a proprietary hardware based video conferencing solution and specializing in the financial services market. Responding to feedback from clients Avistar took the decision to move to a software-only, desktop visual communications system, which would be easier for clients to roll out across the enterprise, and more cost effective. Avistar and now leaders in their market and have expanded their client base beyond the financial services sector in to provide visual communications solutions to enterprise and SMB clients in a wide range of vertical markets.
The Problem
The Solution
The Result
Having deployed the Nalpeiron Licensing Solution Avistar have met their original requirements and also see a range of additional benefits.
“The Engineers picked up the system very quickly. It seemed almost intuitive for them and so the solution was very easy for us to integrate with our own software.”
Avistar's Noel Manos explains:
“And we have the copy protection we needed. Our in-house system worked on an “honour” basis – if we sold someone 50 licenses we trusted them to deploy just 50 licenses. We needed something a bit more sophisticated. With the Nalpeiron system we can see when a customer is “over using” their license entitlement (using the OverDraftTracker feature in PRO) and decide how and when to deal with that. When a customer is pushing our software out to hundreds of desktops there is nothing worse than having the deployment fail because they have insufficient licenses. It’s much better for us to allow the customer to complete their deployment and go back and deal with the licensing issue with them at a later date. The Nalpeiron system gives us the flexibility and information we need to do that.”
Avistar are also impressed with NLS reporting capabilities. Information that was previously managed on spread sheets can now be drawn directly from the system, saving time and increasing accuracy.
As a part of the move to a software-only solution Avistar are also moving into Channel distribution. The NLS Channel Manager will allow Avistar to easily and securely manage licensing through their partner channel.
Noel Manos summarizes:
“It’s a great tool. It’s easy to see that a huge amount of development has gone into it and it gives you everything you could possible need to manage your licensing. So far we feel we are barely scratching the surface of all that the system can do, but everything we have used has been really good.”
